For its Senior Project, the LHS Class of 2024 organized the Redbird Pickleball Tournament, held on Saturday, April 27 at the Loudonville Pickleball Courts. A total of 30 two-person teams competed, with each team guaranteed at least four games. About 25 members from the Class of 2024 helped throughout the day with registration, concession stand, tournament operations, and clean-up.
The tournament itself raised $5,232 to benefit the L-P School Foundation. The Class of 2024 also held three bake sales during the school year. With those additional profits, the Class of 2024’s total is $7,004 which puts them in second place among all 25 of the Senior Projects held since 2000.
The tournament consisted of five brackets and the bracket winners were:
Beginner/Intermediate Women: Pam Tuttle & Nancy Donaldson
Beginner/Intermediate Men: Michael Burkhart & Anthony Reed
Intermediate/Advanced Women: Mary Davis & Kaitlin Lemke
Intermediate/Advanced Men: Brian Mullet & Bruce Troyer
Intermediate/Advanced Mixed Doubles: Brandon Biddinger & Kaitlin Lemke
Participants and spectators were encouraged to bring non-perishable items for the Helping Hand food pantry. For each item, they received one ticket in a drawing for two $25 gas cards. Almost 100 items were collected for Helping Hand. The gas cards winners were Juanita Shenberger and Skip Stitzlein.
The 2024 class officers involved with this event were President Josh Serrato, Vice President Aidan Neibert, Secretary Olyvia Fenton, Co-Treasurers Camryn Butts and Alyssa Henley, Historian Jocelyn Grassman, and Representative Zeke Hershberger.
The Foundation sends its thanks to the Class of 2024 for their hard work in making this event a huge success, and to senior class advisor Aimee Ross for her help with the planning and execution of this event. We also thank the 25 businesses who helped with sponsorships. Finally, thanks to all the players and spectators for making this such a fun event.
