What a FANTASTIC job by the Class of 2023!
For its Senior Project, the LHS Class of 2023 held a Golf Scramble on Sunday, April 23 at Pleasant Hill Golf Course. A total of 24 four-person teams competed, and the event raised $6,956 to benefit the L-P School Foundation. During basketball season last winter, the Class of 2023 ran 50-50 raffles that raised $2,426 to benefit the Foundation. The $9,382 grand total raised by the Class of 2023 topped the previous high of $4,650 raised by the Class of 2007.
For the Golf Scramble, the top men’s team was captained by Rusty Burkepile, and the top mixed team was captained by Tom Lavinder. Both teams donated back their $100 first place prize money. Jackie Arnold won the 50-50 raffle and donated back her $265 share.
Seven other $25 prizes were awarded to a variety of categories such as longest drive, longest putt, closest to pin, and closest to water. The seven winners included Kyle Clinedinst, Ryan Conway, Mikey Henderson, Debbie Lavinder, Deaunna Morgan (two categories), and Shawn Wade. Four of these winners also donated back their prize money.
A silent auction raised $440 for the Foundation. A wide variety of items were donated by local businesses, including Wende Lance/Howard Hanna, Modern Home Supply, Mohican Lodge, Richardson’s Greenhouse, and Step2.
Although none of the golfers managed a hole in one, several prizes were offered, including a one-week vacation to Hawaii. Thank you to Sharon Guilliams of State Farm Insurance for underwriting the hole in one prizes.
The event started at 10:00 with chilly temperatures but mostly sunny skies. Despite a brief period with small sized hail, the golfing continued until about 1:30. Kelly Seboe and Aaron Butts manned the grill, preparing hamburgers and hot dogs that were served by the seniors.
The 2023 class officers involved with this event were President Zach Frankford, Vice President Goldie Layton, Secretary Kenzie Cutlip, Treasurer Katie Seboe, and Historian David Knoble.
The L-P School Foundation thanks the Class of 2023 for their a great work in raising substantial funds to bolster the Foundation’s endowment, and to benefit the L-P Schools for years to come.
